Why Business Insights are Essentials in Organizations

BY: NEISHA SANTIAGO

Having business insight is necessary to ensure that talent development strategies align with overall business strategies. Business insight involves the specific skills and knowledge the talent must have to drive to reach success and sustainability. Likewise business insights is the understanding of critical factors impacting business such as:

  • How it makes and spends money
  • How it controls its industry or market
  • How it achieves its mission
  • How strategic decisions have made
  • Factors affecting processes and workflows.

Without business insight, talent development will not be able to create and implement proper strategies that align with overall business models.

According to ATD’s capability model, a talent development with business insight must understand each business ecosystem, especially line managers. Talent development needs to involve themselves in daily work conditions, responsibilities, and workflows. Also, speaking the managers’ language regarding their decision-making, preferences, and metrics for success is positive to increase effective communication. Finally, talent development insights will guarantee that the practice and knowledge align with the organization’s overall business goals and vision.

“Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought.”
