GOVERNMENT

WATER METER MEGA CENSUS MOBILE APP

We developed a tablet application that allows AAA personnel to enter updated information on water meters across Puerto Rico. Users can now view and generate information on this updated database.

The Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados is a governmental agency in Puerto Rico in charge of providing quality water and sewerage services to the citizens on the island.

CHALLENGE

The main challenge of the AAA was having outdated information on water meters, citizen information, consumption, among other things. The AAA urgently needed to generate accurate reports for the government on water consumption and profits. After an audit, we discovered that some of the active counters weren’t on the database or were reporting incorrect data, thus preventing correct readings.

THE SOLUTION

After documenting the requirements and needs of the AAA, INVID began to develop a custom solution in the form of a web application based on .NET technologies and connecting to a SQL Server database. Likewise, the application was also developed in C#.

Through our tablet application, AAA employees are now able to enter data about water meters, physical addresses, citizen information, and even take pictures if necessary. All this information is stored directly in the AAA’s database. Each section is segmented with customized profiles to only be accessed by authorized personnel.

THE RESULT

As a result of our service to AAA, the agency hired a brigade to carry out what they called a “Mega Census”. The project consisted of personally visiting each water meter in Puerto Rico and updating its information in the system using our tablet application.

A web application was also developed for the agency’s administrative tasks such as distributing routes and generating and exporting reports to Excel. This information could in turn update the general database and maintain a correct record of water consumption while also identifying defective meters.
